No Christmas Spirit

The weekend before Thanksgiving is always Cameron’s annual lighting ceremony at McCorkle Park. They flip the switch to turn on the Christmas lights and the CHS choir sings Christmas songs. Oh, the sound of Christmas music, such an enjoyable sound to get you in the holiday mood. To turn on the radio and...wait, they don't play Christmas music on the radio anymore before Thanksgiving. The stations that used to play Christmas music after Halloween changed their broadcasting formats at the beginning of the year. Now you have to wait until Thanksgiving is over to enjoy some Christmas songs on the radio.

Christmas music brings joy to most people. It helps spread the holiday cheer around. When I hear Christmas music, I automatically feel happier, and it puts me in a giving mood. I think Christmas music makes people crave Christmas. It helps motivate them to put up lights and decorations sooner. When people drive around town at night, they can listen to Christmas music on the radio and gaze at the beautiful Christmas lights up. I know the lights would be put up eventually either way, but why not start the holiday spirit early?

When you are out Christmas shopping in November and turn the radio on to sing along to Christmas tunes, you can’t! This irritates me because I absolutely love Christmas music. The first day the stations start playing it, I have it on singing along. These stations changed their format because people thought it was too early for Christmas music, but what about people who like to get in the holiday spirit early? I look forward to the first day of November every year to hear that first Christmas song on the radio, but this year I have to wait almost another month for that.

I don’t know if these stations changing their format bothers anyone else, but it sure does bother me. Christmas only comes once a year; I don’t see anything wrong with starting it a month early. Listening to the same songs over and over every day gets old. Christmas music gives you a break from that. People complaining about Christmas music coming on too soon don’t have to listen to those stations. It’s only two months out of the year, and a lot of people enjoy it. Next year I hope the stations realize it was a bad idea to change formats. I hope at least one station changes back to playing Christmas music the first day of November.

I agree with you totally! I struggled finding a station after halloween too. Good thing for online radio stations that were onboard before the actual radio stations. Helps me make it through the workday easier!!
