It’s that time of year again! Time for hot chocolate, Christmas trees, gifts and stockings. Many people will be busy finishing holiday shopping and putting the last few presents under their trees. Students from CHS, however, took time out of their busy schedules to spread what they feel is the true meaning of the Christmas spirit.

On Friday, December 17, members of Christian Students United (CSU) faced wind and cold to venture into the streets of Cameron to go Christmas caroling. This annual activity is very important to the members of CSU because it helps them share their beliefs about the Christmas season with other people.

“We go Christmas caroling to help make other people’s holiday better. Some people don’t get to spend Christmas with their families, so it just shows that we care. Also, Christmas is about God sending His son for all people. He was sent as a baby in a manger, not as a king. We go caroling to share that with other people. We do it to spread the love of God. We have so much and are so blessed, so we want to share that with other people,” said Sophomore Ashtyn Clay. “It makes me feel good about myself to know that I made someone happy.”

CSU Secretary Pauline Santos agreed. “The purpose behind caroling is to spend time with people who might not get a lot of visitors during the holidays and to brighten their holiday and put them into the Christmas spirit. Not only do the people we visit benefit from this activity, but the members also benefit because we’re doing good things and it’s a great thing to see people’s faces light up whenever we appear at their doors and they hear us sing. CSU is trying to remind people what Christmas is all about and spread the love of God.”

This activity wasn’t just about being serious, though. After they were finished caroling, the CSU members got together for a Christmas party and gift exchange.

Sophomore Adam Ussher said, “It’s important for CSU members to hang out because it helps remind us that we aren’t alone as Christians in the high school. Having friends in CSU makes being a Christian easier.”

CSU members are keeping the true meaning of Christmas alive in CHS and their community. This holiday season, keep in mind what you feel Christmas is truly about.
