As the 09-10 school year comes to a close, which entails the seniors leaving and a whole new wave of freshmen in the halls of CHS next year. As the freshmen overpopulated the halls, classrooms, and even lunch, they also feel the need to be a part of the many activities CHS offers. Now to get into some of these activities you have to try out. For example , kids must try out to be in the Cameron Dance Team and Cameron Cheer. Tryouts for Cheer are the March 24 and April 1 for Dance Team.

If you're trying out for Cheer on March 24, the clinics to attend were Monday the 21 and Tuesday the 22. At the clinics, the students were put into lines. In these lines they learned the cheer, chant, and jumps step-by-step. On the day of the tryouts, people taught the students a cheer, chant, motions and jumps. "They [the judges] look for you to be loud and for sharpness," said Junior Allison Zeikle. "You have to be sharp; that's the biggest thing and for you to smile really big. You just practice, practice, practice."

If you're trying out for Dance on April 1, you must have a physical and have attended clinics the 29 and 31 of March. At these clinics the students will learn the dance and some technique. On the day of the tryouts the students will be dressed in their tryout outfit with their partner to the high school at 6 pm. Each pair will pick a number and perfrom the dance in front of the judges in that order. They will perform the routine twice so that the judges have a chance to watch both contestants. After everyone is done, they all go to Dairy Queen and wait until the current captain [in this case Amanda Diven] recieves a call from the Dance Team sponsor [Valerie Hutton] saying the list has been posted. Everyone then rushes back to the school to see the new 10-11 Dance Team.

This will be Sophomore Amanda Estep's third time trying out for Dance Team. "I think tryouts will be amazing! I'm excited to see who all is going to tryout!" Amanda's advice for a good tryout is to drink lots of water, stretch, and talk to all the other girls trying out.

While Amanda has the experience, Eighth Grader Sable Huffman is new to the whole tryout process. "I haven't had as much experience as some of the other girls, but I think tryouts will go well."

The tryout routine the girls perform must consist of some certain dance moves. There must be a double turn, a toe touch, a leap, and kicks. Not only do the judges look at the technical moves, but also how well the dancers execute the routine. "The judges look for facial expressions, technique, and how well you perform and remember the dance," said Amanda.

Good luck to all of the girls and guys trying out for the '10-11 Cheer and Dance Team!
