The cast and crew of "Joan of Arc". -
Advertising
From the shows that make you laugh to the shows that make you cry, the newest production at Cameron High did both. This production was "The Trials of Joan of Arc", on March 18,19, and 20, every night starting at seven o'clock. This story was about two students who have to do a project together and they decide to use Joan of Arc as their topic. The two students write a report on Joan and what all she did during her time in history.

This play is different than the ones the drama department has done in the past. It is a very unique play that is artsy and historical. Usually the high school puts on a comedy, but something different never hurts. In fact, many people enjoyed this different type of show. The seniors who have been in the past performances say that they were glad to get to do something like this before they graduate.

Senior Lindsey Mattox has been in the past productions and really enjoyed this one. Lindsey said, "I feel like this play brought the cast closer together. I'm really going to miss every one of them. I got to be the 'bad guy' in this play. It was a great experience to get to be the mean one in the show. At one point I actually had to slap Meghan Mulcahy. It took me forever to get used to without apologizing for it. Some people are a little scared of me now. I am really going to miss these productions and the fun we have doing them."

Lindsey said she thought they did a pretty good job all three nights. "It could've been better, but we pulled it off and it turned out to be a great show. I think our best performance was Friday night, but the other nights went well too," said Lindsey.

The show must have been a success because multiple people came back to see it more than one night. The audience said that they liked the show, but liked the actors in it more. One of these audience members was Sophomore Jake Smith. Jake said, "I thought the show was great, but I really thought the actors did an excellent job at playing their parts. Dominic Brazeel (playing Michael) was probably my favorite. His character was really funny and he did a good part playing him. Everyone did a great job and made the show fun to watch. My favorite part was when Zane Clark and Faith Roberts (playing the father and daughter) got into a fight and were yelling at each other, because they would never actually do that to each other or to anyone else."

Jake wasn't the only one who enjoyed the play. Freshmen Chloe Rybacki said, "I thought it was pretty good. Zane Clark and Meghan Mulcahy were my favorite characters. It was funny to see that the guys had to wear robes or tights in this play. It was different then the musical, but I thought everybody did a good job." She thought her freshmen classmates did great, but really enjoyed the seniors and will miss seeing them in the musical next fall.

Even with the weird weather, from 70 degrees on Thursday to snow and ice on Friday and Saturday, the show went on. Based on comments from the audience, the play provided a good last high school performance for the seniors. The seniors will be missed by everyone in the cast and by the directors. There were no dry eyes during curtain call the final night. These seniors left the cast their leadership skills, great acting abilities, and kind hearts that will help the crew in the future years to keep the performances as good as this one was.
