At-a-glance

The students worked hard so they could attend the Gold Card trip on October 28. -

At most schools playing video games, beating friends at miniature golf, being skillful at the batting cages, playing laser tag, hitting others in bumper cars, and dominating at bowling isn't exactly school-related. That's not what Cameron Middle School thought though when the CMS were able to do all this and more on October 28. They were able to have fun during the school day because of something called Gold Card. They didn't even have to make up their homework, tests, or quizes they had on Wednesday!

"Gold Card is an incentive trip that happens at the end of every quarter for middle school students who have gotten all of their homework turned in on time, no missing or late work, and have achieved a grade of B or better. The 5th and 6th graders went to Cool Crest. It has video games, mini golf, unlimited go karts, and batting cages. 7th and 8th graders went to Powerplay, which consists of laser tag, bowling, bumper cars, video games, and a buffet," said Gold Card Sponsor Mrs. Rebecca Muchmore. Mrs. Muchmore said the students have a great time on these trips.

"I got really excited when I found out I was getting to go on the Gold Card trip. It is a lot of fun because you get to go somewhere fun and be out of school for a day," said 6th Grader Kirstin Kulus. Kirstin has only went on two other trips before this one.

7th grader Kristyn Long has went on eight other trips before this one. She also loves Gold Card. "I was proud of myself and really excited when I found out. I had fun hanging out with my friends outside of school," said Kristyn. All of the students who were lucky enough to go had fun hanging out their friends and getting out of school for the day.

Though they had fun, they were ready to hit the books when they got back, having next quarter's Gold Card in mind. Even though Cameron Middle School had many students who made the trip for this quarter, it had many students who didn't. Those students shouldn't fret though, there are three more opportunities for them to go this year and, if they aren't in 8th grade, more to come in the next few years. All they have to do is imagine themselves having a good time playing games and hanging out with friends. Keep that image in mind while studying and the next Gold Card list could have an extra name or two added on to it.
