7th grade students study hard. -

Students at CMS study hard for the MAP test they have to take in the spring. They do this with one goal in mind: do well enough on the test to make it on the MAP incentive trip. The trip includes a visit to Worlds of Fun this year, as it has in previous years. Students in grades 5-8th take the test in the spring, but if they score proficient or advanced on all tests, then they are eligible to participate in the incentive trip in the fall.

"For this year, the 5-8th grades take the MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) test in the spring, but the 6-9th grades get to go [on the trip]," said Middle School Principle Jay Albright. This trip tries to reward the students for all their hard work.

Sixth grader Kennedy King finds the trip very rewarding. "We get to go to the movies, eat pizza, and go to Worlds of Fun; I'm excited," said Kennedy. The 172 students who made the trip were dismissed from school Friday, October 30th at 1:00. They went to Liberty to watch a movie and eat at Cici's Pizza, and then off to Worlds of Fun.

Along with Kennedy, this is Sixth Grade Math Teacher Rod Thomas' first time chaperoning the trip. "From what I've heard in the past this is a great experience; we get to leave school early, go eat dinner, watch a movie, and then go to Worlds of Fun. I think it's a great idea!" he explained.

This idea, according to Guidance Counselor Lisa Pruitt, was Mr. Sanders', Cameron Middle School's former principle. Now Mr. Albright is in charge of putting this incentive trip together. "The incentive trip is just a way to try to motivate students to do well on the MAP test," said Mr. Albright.

Mrs Pruitt agrees with Mr. Albright, but adds, "It [the MAP trip] is also to reward them [students] for their effort."

Hats off to all of the students who took the MAP test and did their best, but congratulations to the 172 students who made it on trip. Keep up the hard work because in a few years your reward won't be at World of fun, but in the real world!
