Ever wonder what goes on behind Cameron High Dance Team? Well, the ladies on the team are ready to teach the young dancers how to move with its annual Dance Camp for kids in grades K-8. Every year the CHS Dance Team comes up with an amazing theme, this year the theme is 'Doing it NDA (National Dance Association) Style'.

"I am pretty excited about this. It will be my first kids workshop for dance team. I hope the kids will be ready for the performance since the workshops only last one day," Sophomore Megan Godby said. Many of the team members were paired up and then they were separated into the grade levels they will teach. "I am happy because I get to teach some of the third graders. I know some of them so it will be exciting. I get to teach them with (Sophomore) Amanda Estep,"  Megan added.

Team Captain Senior Amanda Diven has been in dance team for all four years of high school. Many of the students/team members respect her and look up to her. "It's fun to see how excited the younger students that we teach react at the performance. The students get very nervous, but they end up doing a great job," Amanda said. Amanda loves being able to teach the children about dancing and how to dance.

Many of the team members say Amanda is a great captain and a great teacher.

"She is hard-working, very caring, extremely nice, and really fun to be around," Sophomore Amanda Estep said. Many students who have done the workshop in the past say it is a lot of fun, especially with the Amanda leading the way.

Amanda believes her entire team is ready to pass the torch. "Most of the team members teaching have a background of some dance, so I am not too worried about what will be going on," Amanda explained.

As mentioned, the members were broken into pairs and will be teaching certain grades. Kindergarten will be taught by Junior Pepper Young and Senior Margaret Leach. First Grade will be taught by Junior Brandy McClure and Team Captain Amanda Diven. Second Grade will be taught by Sophomore Hanna Parra and Junior Katie Ault. Third grade will be taught by Sophomores Megan Godby and Amanda Estep. Fourth Grade will be taught by Junior Jessie Blanton and Sophomore Sarah Bachman. Fifth through Eighth Grade will be taught by Junior Jessica Parra and Freshman Taylor Hult-Teel.

The dance team would like to have as many students come to the middle school on October 11 as possible. The dance team loves to do this for all the young dancers and would like to have them participate in dancing at the Junior Varsity football game during half-time. Don't forget to mark Sunday, October 11 on your calenders!
