Have you ever wanted to get information on colleges but not want to travel to get it? CHS hosts a college fair annually for just this reason, and this year it was Wednesday, September 23.

"College Fair is an evening sponsored by the Missouri Association for Admissions Counselors. They host college fairs in which the representatives travel around and make personal visits in the evening, kind of like one-stop shopping," says Guidance Counselor Jennifer Grossman. "All of the major colleges in the state of Missouri, universities, private schools, technical schools, and even representatives from the military did attend."

Some colleges who attended were University of Central Missouri, University of Missouri-Kansas City, Northwest Missouri State University, not to mention various military branches and much more.

College fair is open to all grades, but the majority who attend are seniors. "We encourage juniors to attend, but even freshmen would be welcome to attend," said Ms.Grossman.

Students have different reasons for attending college fair, although the main one is to gather information. Some students already know what college they want to go to. For example Seniors Elizabeth Tracy and Max Smith do.

"I went to get a course description book from UCM ," said Elizabeth.

Another reason students go to college fair is to browse the different colleges there.

"I went to the college fair to get a chance to look at a bunch of different colleges and see what kind of information I could pick up, what they had to offer. There were a lot of colleges that I've never heard of [there] so it was neat to see all of them and get information," said Senior Chandelle Atkinson.

College fair can be very beneficial to students. Colleges ranging from Mizzou to Chiropractic College to even the military were all there in the students' cafeteria set up with flyer's and pamphlets with tons information. "It is accessible," said Ms. Grossman, "they get their questions answered by a representative from the school."

"It gives us an opportunity to interact with the colleges and representatives from the colleges without having to go to the colleges and miss school," said Max.

College fair is annually held at CHS and all high school students are welcome for one evening of nothing but college talk. There are a bunch of different colleges there, each with representatives who are ready to answer all the questions you can come up with. It is very beneficial to students who should seize this opportunity!
