Cameron High School DECA members and other DECA members around theregion attended a sports and entertainment marketing event on Thursday,September 10 at the Kauffman Stadium. It was called DECA Day at the K. DECA members were able to go to thestadium a few hours before the game to attend different activities. Those fun activities included listening to five speakers, which DECASponsor Mrs. Stephanie Williamssaid they talked about what kind of education background and what kindof careers led them to working for a major baseball team, the "outfieldexperience", and staying to watch the Royals game.

"One of the speakers was Toby Cook. He is the Vice President of Community Affairs and Publicity. The second speaker was Trey Hillman. He is the manager of the Royals. Anotherspeaker was David Hayob. He is the The Acute Manager for CorporateSponsorship and Sales. The fourth speaker was Carrie Bligh. She is theDirector of Family Experiences and Hospitality. The last speaker wasDon Costante. He is the Senior Director of Event Presentation andProjection," explained Mrs. Williams.

The DECA members who went had a lot of fun.

"My favorite part was, even though we [the DECA members who attended] were paying attention to the Royals game [when] we were trying to take pictures of Mrs. Williams, but she wouldn't look. I had a blast," said Senior Drucilla Fletcher.

Thursday might have been the first time some DECA members had ever been to the Royals Stadium.

"I had a lot of fun because I had never been to a Royals gamebefore. I had fun enjoying my first time being there," said SeniorCorbin Bogle. He said his favorite part was the Royals winning.

Not all of the DECA members were able to go. The Royals game was an optional activity, so some of the students who had to work after school or had a test that day decided to stay behind.

"Gold days are my hard days. I have Calculus on those days and Ididn't want to miss it and have to make it up because I wouldn't knowwhat was going on," said Senior Ashley Nied.

Even though Ashley wasn't able to go, themembers who were able to go had many good things happen while they werethere. The Royals ended up winning the game, the DECA members learnedabout working for a major baseball team, and they had lots of fun. Mrs.Williams said DECA plans on going to a lot of different competitionsthis school year with their DECA projects.
