I look forward to watching the MTV Video Music Awards every year because something controversial, or something completely out of the ordinary. always seems happen, which is great entertainment for a Sunday night.

Some of the moments I remember are in 1999 when 'N Sync, myfavorite boy band at the time, performed their hit single "Tearin' UpMy Heart" and in 2001 when Britney Spears performed "Slave For You" andwas wearing a seven-foot albino python snake. There are other moments Iremember, but these two stick out in my mind, considering I wasobsessed with 'N Sync and Britney Spears in my younger days.

Iwas hoping this year's Video Music Awards could live up to thememorable moments and drama of the previous years. I did indeed get mywish.

This year the VMAs took place on September 13, at Radio City MusicHall in New York City, and this year there seemed to be more drama thanever before.

The pre-show seemed fairly normal, two people were wearing the same dress, Pop Singer Lady Gaga brought Kermit the Frog as her date--nothingunusual there. At the beginning of the show, a Michael Jackson tributewas performed, put together by his sister, Janet. The drama began shortly after this performance.

The first award, for Best Female Video, was given to Country MusicSinger Taylor Swift. Taylor, who was shocked she won and very excitedto win the award, got on stage and gave her acceptance speech. Whileshe was in the middle of her speech, Rapper/Hip-Hop Singer Kanye Westtook her microphone away from her and declared Beyonce's video for"Single Ladies" was "one of the best of all time".

My initial reaction was it was staged, but then the camera showed Beyonce's face, which clearly told this wasn't planned. Kanye has donesome pretty ridiculous things in the past, but this by far was one ofthe worst. He needs to start thinking before he acts and not beidiotic. What he did mademe think about the type of person he is, and I don't think I'll bebuying his CDs anymore or listening to his music again, nor do I thinkanyone should.

I felt really bad for Taylor; shedidn't even get to finish her speech. She probably should've just toldhim he was being immature and went ahead and finished her speech.I would've. However, later when Beyonce won an award, she invitedTaylor on stage to finish her speech. This was nice of Beyonce, andTaylor handled the situation well, unlike Kanye.

The rest of the show wasn't as interesting after the Swift/West incident, other than Lady Gaga covered in fake blood during her performance. I have a short attention span and lost interest after about the first hour, like I do every year.

The next day, all anybody seemed to be talking about was the Swift/West story. This is typical for after the VMAs, something always happens causing people to buzz about for the next few weeks.

Overall, the Video Music Awards were like I expected them to be: crazy outfits, random performaces, and drama the whole country can't help but talk about, like every year.I'm not sure why the VMAs are so appealing to me year after year, considering they are always pretty much the same, but I can't stopmyself from watching the show. At least I'll have plenty to talk aboutfrom this year's show, while I'm waiting for next year.
