Have you ever tasted ethnic food before? Foreign Language Club [FLC] tries ethnic food all the time and there are lots of members. There are near 70 members and counting for 2009-2010 looking forward to another great new year of FLC.

"I'm very excited that we can keep on doing it [traveling for exotic foods]," said FLC Sponsor Mimi Jones.
"I hope it goes smoothly as it did last year," she added.

Membersof FLC get to choose from 17 different categories or make anothersuggestion. They choose 5 restaurants and Mrs. Jones and Spanishteacher Senior Hansen add 2 other restaurants. They offer trips toauthentic Brazilian, Greek, Indian, or even Mongolian restaurants.Puerto Rican is the newest offering this year and will be made by Cameron's very own Chazzies.

FLC will cost $20 to become a member, which includes a t-shirt and transportation to 3 trips. Students then pay for their ownfood. To become a member of FLC you must complete at least 2 years of aforeign language class or be currently enrolled in one.

The trips start the first Friday of November and end the in May. They usually go to Kansas City. Mrs. Jones helps with 'fears of the big city.'

Parents and former students are allowed to meet at the restaurants, and sometimes other teachers will take FLC to the trips. FLC hasn't ever and will never get out of school for a trip. Mrs. Jones wants everyone member of FLC to have a well-rounded education.

FLC is sponsored by Mrs. Jones, Sr. Hansen, and the members. They fund raise through the chocolate sales during the year.

FLC was based on the French and Spanish clubs Mrs. Jones started in 2003. Those clubs were expensive and the food was what was the most popular. They decided that they would leave the food to the professionals rather than making it themselves, and the result was FLC, which came to life in the 2005-2006 school year. "I had a great time," said Mrs. Jones about last years of FLC.

FLCis rare opportunity for its members. Cameron High School is the onlyschool in the area that has a club like FLC. Some people stay in theclub all through high school. Some members like the restaurants so muchthey return to the restaurants, which means it is also good business for the restaurants.

FLChas made some minor mistakes. Restaurants don't appreciate when youdon't have an exact number of people coming. FLC rules have beentweaked and refined so there are no problems. Every trip is prepared sothere are no hassles.

Sorev up your taste buds and turn in your membership information to Mrs.Jones and YOU could be on your way to cuisine from around the world!
