Student in Ms. Harper's Language Arts II take their EOC Exam. -

Just a few weeks ago students finished taking their state standardized test, the End of Course (EOC) Exam. This is the first year the new test has been given. Students took the MAP (Missouri Assessment Program) Test before and still do the middle and elementary schools.

The main difference between the EOC Exam and the MAP Test is the EOC counts for a portion of the students' grade. Another difference is the EOC is given one subject a time, regardless of the grade level of the student.

Because of these reasons, many CHS students liked taking the EOC Exam better than taking the MAP Test. "I liked the EOC because they break it up into sections," says Freshman Paige Jones.

Freshman Shawn Crawford has a different reason for preferring the EOC. "I liked the EOC; it was over only one subject at a time."

Since the EOC is broken up into sections and is one subject at a time, students not only liked this test more, but also felt like they did better. "I did a lot better than I thought [before the test]. I think I did pretty good," says Freshman Megan Godby.

Shawn also thinks he did well. "It was pretty easy; the Algebra I Test was easier." Students were tested in Algebra I, Biology, and Language Arts II.

Teachers also seem confident their students did well on this test. "From comments I've been hearing, I think they're doing as well as they expected, or even better," says Algebra I Teacher Mrs.Greene. "[The EOC] motivates students more."

Biology Teacher Mrs.Stebbins also thinks her students exceeded expectations. "I think they did fairly well." Mrs.Stebbins went on to say how she thinks student did better because they were tested over stuff they studied that year.

Language Arts Teacher Ms.Anthuis commented, "I think it went well for students. I haven't heard any bad comments. I think the students tried harder and put more effort [into the EOC]."

Although many students liked the EOC better and thought they did well, they are relieved testing is finished. State testing can always be stressful and students are glad they have one less thing to stress about.
