Parkview Counselor Mrs. Haine. -

Mrs. Hane has been a cherished member of the Cameron community for over 30 years. She has served as Parkview Elementary's school guidance counselor for more than three decades and has decided it's time for her to retire at the end of this school year.

Along with her hand puppet partner, Duso, Mrs. Hane spent time with each class once a week teaching students lifelong principles of friendship, sharing, staying away from drugs, getting along with others, and always respecting oneself. Her goal in teaching these principles was to build the groundwork for Cameron's students to grow up and be good citizens. She treated the students and staff at Parkview like they were part of a giant family. She believed in building relationships with every individual and always being available to hear about the children's good times and bad times and ups and their downs.

Mrs. Hane believes these moments to be amongst her fondest memories. "We are a big family here [at Parkview]; we take care of each other," she said. "My time here has been incredible and I will miss my job, the kids, and the Parkview staff."

Although retirement for Mrs. Haine will be bittersweet, she is looking forward to traveling, working on her house, and planning activities with her husband who retired form teaching two years ago. She is also looking forward to simple luxuries like working on a crossword puzzle all morning long and following all the local sports teams.

Fourth Grade Teacher Mrs. Gaines has been teaching with Mrs. Haine for twenty years, and they have become very close during that time. "Mrs. Hane does an outstanding job as a teacher and a counselor. She has an amazing memory--remembering every student's name, birth date--and also knows their families," Mrs. Gaines said. "She is also compassionate, has an excellent manner in handling the public, is very organized, and keeps us all on track. The kids so enjoy when she comes in for her lessons and they will really miss her. The district will miss her," she added affectionately.

Parkview Principal Clark Dauner agreed the district will really miss Mrs. Hane, "She's an incredible teacher. She knows all the kids, and she knows all the staff. She also knows the curriculum, which was always a huge help at test time," he said. "She thrives on interaction with the people and helping solve problems. No matter what her lessons were, she always had the same amount of energy and excitement every time," he added. Mr. Dauner concluded with the acknowledgment of this important quality about Mrs. Haine, "We have 800 students and she made sure to help anyone who needed it."

Interestingly, Mrs. Hane remembers when she was in college female students were encouraged to pursue only nursing, teaching, and secretarial careers. She made sure, over the years, to let her Cameron students know they can be anything they want to be.

Obviously, counseling fit Mrs. Haine to a tee. Enjoy retirement, Mrs. Hane. You've earned it.
