Hoops For Hearts was held February 26, from 3-5pm in the CMS gym. Hoops For Heart is a national educational fund-raising program that is sponsored by The American Heart Association, The American Alliance For Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance. This program showed Middle School Students they can contribute to their community's welfare. This program also can help teach some of the students some basketball skills. These students that participated did it for a very good cause.

Fith Grader Morgan Ott said, "I've never really done something like this before, but I did this to raise money for people that have heart problems and for helping prevent Heart Disease. I felt like I did a very good job with raising money."

Students ask their friends and family for every free-throw you make out of a hundred to donate like fifty cents for each basket they make, or whatever price range the donor wants. They can even make donations.

Seventh Grader Abbie Ott said, "I had a really good time! It made me feel good inside that I was doing it out of the goodness in my heart. I only made fifteen dollars, but that's better than nothing."

If the students raised between $5-49 they received a water bottle. If they raised between $15-29 then they won a Zeebeez, which is a little toy that spins, or one gift card for one free musical download of their choice. If they raised $30-49.99  they won an orbit ball or a gift card for one free ringtone download. If they raised fifty dollars to $74.99-99.99 they won a shirt. The prize list goes on and on.

Sixth grader Kelsey Swinderman said, "Hoops For Heart is a very good thing that students in my school can participate in. It has a good affect on some people. I think it makes them feel good inside that they did something good to help somebody else."

Abbie Ott added, "Sometimes I don't think people really realize how bad some people have it. I mean some people are out there dying because of heart problems and things related to that. It's good to participate in things like this because it's showing that you do want to make a difference."

The students' efforts paid off.  They raised nearly $1,000 for the cause this year! CMS holds this program every year, so parents encourage your child/children to take part in this program. The students who participate in these programs aren't just making a difference in their lives, but in other peoples too!
