On Thursday, March 5 a group of 17 students from Cameron High School took a bus to St. Joe to Missouri Western State College to join students from the surrounding schools at Missouri Western's Writing Days. The 17 students were students who have an ability to write well, as selected by the English department.

The students were very excited to go. "I'm excited to go because it is lots of fun to meet new people that like writing like I do," said Junior Allison Gienapp.

She thinks going to Writing Days will help her in the future. "I think it will help me by expanding my knowledge of creative writing to help me get published," Allison said.

Allison and Junior Caleb Watson both expect to gain a greater knowledge of writing skills and to become better at writing. Caleb also thinks Writing Days will look good on his college transcripts.

Ms. Harper hopes they gained more than what they expected to gain. "I hope they have a new appreciation of writing and they see themselves as very talented. I hope they can find their inner writing voice during Writing Days," said Ms. Harper.

Senior Katy Peterson went to Missouri Western's Writing Days last year. "I had a lot of fun. It was a blast. My favorite part was towards the end of the day. We could listen to what people wrote. Some of it was depressing and some of it was funny," said Katy.

The students who went were happy this year's Missouri Western's Writing Days was as fun as it was last year. They have gained knowledge on how to write more effectively and how to appreciate their writing ability. They have learned how to understand and fix the mistakes they make in what they write. All of the students who went enjoyed the time they spent at Missouri Western's Writing Days. The Juniors who went look forward to hopefully being chosen to go next year, but if they don't get chosen then they hope the students who go next year enjoy it as much as they did. The Seniors plan on taking what they learned either this year, last year, or both years, to college and to their future jobs with them.
