At Cameron High School (CHS) all of our fall sports teams (Golf, Volleyball, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, and Football) are not just athletes; they are Scholar Athletes. Missouri State High School Activities Association in recognition of GPA accomplishments by members of teams in schools throughout the state. CHS students in fall sports made either Distinguished Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.00-3.24 or Outstanding GPA of 3.25-4.00. The GPAs were all impressive and included: Golf- 3.67, Volleyball-3.65, Soccer-3.39, Softball-3.29, Tennis-3.27, and Football-3.18.

Mrs. Harrold, the coach for the girls volleyball team, thinks, "It's outstanding [that her volleyball girls got a 3.65 GPA] and that's over all for all of my girls and I think its an honor to have girls that do good in both school and sports."

Freshmen and volleyball outside hitter and setter, Megan Risseeuw says the girls our proud of their accomplishment.
"Even though there may be less people on the volleyball team than the football team, our volleyball players did a great job keeping up our grades."

Coach Harrold believes it's all about balancing everything for student athletes. "My volleyball girls do an amazing job with balancing school, sports, friends, and all that stuff," she explained.

Megan agrees with Coach Harrold. "I think I do a good job trying to keep up my grades and having to do well in school and on the court gets a little hard sometimes, but I know I have to do it for my team."

Coach Harrold admits her girls do most the work. "Honestly, with my players I really don't have to do too much. My girls didn't have the highest one in the school this year; we got second. The golf team beat us, but they only have 8 to 9 people and we have like 20 something girls and we have a high GPA. My girls are pretty self motivated the girls usually study on the bus, especially for a test."

As of next year, the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) is raising the academic bar. A new MSHSAA policy states if students have more than one F then they cannot be in a sport for next year, unless they get their grade up. Coach Harrold agrees with MSHSAA. "We are student athletes and I don't think it would affect a lot of sport players because athletes tend to have higher GPAs than students who don't play in a sport because student athletes enjoy playing their sport so they know they have to keep up their grades," she explained.

Megan is in favor of the change as well. "It would make students work harder than they already are in school so they could play, so I think MSHSAA has a good idea," she said.

Cameron High School is very proud of our scholare athletes and their second consecturive year of MSHSAA recognition for Distinguished or Outstanding Scholastic Achievement! All of the students in fall sports did an outstanding job keeping their grades up!
