Winter sports are in full swing, but recently a few athletes took a pause from the sweat and competition to be recognized. The King and Queen were announced during the half time of the junior varsity boys basketball game. Sarah Hall was crowned queen. Sarah plays basketball during the winter, soccer in the spring, and volleyball in the fall. Kemper Kellerstrass was announced as king. He is the only senior on the wrestling team, and has been to state every year so far.

"I was really surprised," said Queen Sarah Hall, "but my parents were really excited because my sister won Queen her senior year in Lathrop, too."

All winter athletes, including girls and boys basketball, wrestling, dance team, and cheerleading, nominated fellow athletes. Three senior males and three senior females who play winter sports were nominated as King and Queen candidates. Student Council Sponsor Mrs. Stuedle said, "[Voting for King and Queen] was during the lunch periods, towards the beginning of January. Everyone had the opportunity to vote." The votes were then counted by Mrs. Stuedle and Mr. Anderson, STUCO Sponsors.

The freshman attendants were Anna Curtis and Michael Fleshman. Sophomores were Lena Blackburn and Sawyer Marlay. The juniors were Amanda Diven and Alex Tharp. The other senior King candidates were Taylor Lollar and Sean Skilling. Sarah Curtis and Brittany McClure were the other Queen nominees. Kemper gave medals to the male attendants and candidates. Sarah crowned the other female attendants and candidates.

Taylor Lollar said, "It's exciting, senior year, and I get to be a courtwarming candidate. The best part is Sarah Hall is my escort." Little did he know, at the time, the girl he was escorting would be voted Queen.

All the female nominees sported black dresses and the males wore athletic attire. Many people came and watched, which gave the JV a bigger audience.

A few parents were questioning why Courtwarming is not a big as deal as Homecoming. Mrs. Stuedle was not completely sure, but she said, "My answer would possibly be tradition. Traditionally, Homecoming is a much bigger deal. Some people have different feelings about that but as long as I have been around, it just hasn't been as big of a deal."

Either way, the recognition is enough reward for the students. The boys went on to win the game against LeBlond High School. It was a wonderful night to be a Cameron Dragon!
