Procrastination -
Advertising

Okay so I have come to a sudden realization. I am a legit chronic procrastinator. I mean I knew I have always had the tendency to procrastinate, but I do it so much more than I thought. For example…this article should have been done like three weeks ago. Why am I just now finishing this task you ask? Well because I seem to have a constant underlying need to distract myself without even really wanting to. Let’s see if I can even finish this story.

Okay, so apparently..…(20 minutes later)

Sorry about that, I had to check my Facebook and such. Anyway as I was saying, apparently procrastination is defined as the act of replacing actions of high-priority with tasks of low-priority, and thus putting off important tasks to a later time. Some psychologists say that the reason for this behavior is to cope with the anxiety brought about by having to complete a specific task.  I could definitely see this making sense as this is most often how it happens. Even right now, I am not completely positive where I even want to go with this story and yet I continue to keep browsing random sites on the net.

They say the Internet is one of the best places to do research. I tend to agree but at the same time it is a breeding ground for new ways to distract oneself. Some great examples of sites that have the tendency to help you procrastinate are Facebook, Youtube, Tumblr, and Stumbleupon. For example Facebook is simply the most popular social networking site in the world at the moment, with around 800 Million active users. With options to talk with friends, upload photos, and even play games, Facebook will distract you for hours on end.

Stumbleupon is a site that is just MADE to distract you. You make a profile on the site and you are given a list of interests to choose from. Once you choose, it takes your interests and compiles them together.  You then go on to press a button that will take you to random web pages that match your interests. You can find so many unique things on there. Talk about time well wasted.

Okay, so I guess procrastination can be fun sometimes, but unfortunately still a bad habit. I need to break it ASAP because, as I mentioned before, I should have turned this in way earlier. These days it seems we are all more occupied with what is enjoyable rather than what is important. If we want to succeed in anything we may just have to fix that.
