Jamie* missed the serve in a PE volleyball game. In addition to being laughed at by her peers, a particularly disgusting trend is Facebook and MySpace pages dedicated to “Jamie* Sux at Volleyball”. With the recent attention given to VP Candidate Sarah Palen’s daughter’s fiancé’s MySpace rants, social networking sites have become more complex. Facebook hate groups are not only the latest, but also the most dangerous trend in online communities today.

These groups are affecting the lives of their subjects and the reputations of the companies who advertise on Facebook. Probably the most publicized and controversial Facebook hate group, "F**k Islam" group, was left up for months despite countless complaints, flags, and even an opposing group which had acquired over 50,000 members during the period of inaction. This hateful Facebook group spurred a racial war on Facebook among users of all races. Another less publicized Facebook hate group story is that of a USC football player. According to the school's newspaper, the young man got in trouble with the administration of the college after word got out about his Facebook group called "White Nation- arrest black babies before they become criminals." The group's photos included a graphic of an African American infant in handcuffs. While facing repercussions, he claimed that the racist group was a joke among friends, but no one was buying it. Other hate groups include people against cyclists, Christianity, and Skip Bayless - an ESPN news anchor. These groups would be just another thing for adults to shake their head at if it were not for they way it has affected some of them. According to BBC news, six major firms and organizations including Virgin Media and Alcoholics Anonymous pulled their advertisements from the site stating that they felt uncomfortable not being able to control the placement of their ads. They did not want to be associated with Facebook's hateful reputation.

Despite the horrible press, Facebook's hate groups still run rampant and little, if anything, is being done to stop them. When asked about the problems, Facebook representatives state that they are trying their hardest and they are doing all they can. In the meantime, teen stress and rage levels are on the rise as a new form of cyber bullying takes center stage.
