“If you aren’t first, you’re last,” said Ricky Bobby in one of the top movies of the year, Talladega Nights. Obviously 2006 held great promise for movie lovers everywhere as many movies competed to be at the top of the list.

It’s always hard for a movie sequel to stay at the top of the charts as the first hit did, but Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest defied those predictions. Hot actors like Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightly kept everyone wanting more. Without the same set of actors playing, it’s hard to get pulled into a second movie– this was not a problem for the Pirates of the Caribbean!

“What’s the matter with your feet?”

“They’re happy too!”

The movie Happy Feet attracted people of all ages to see the humorous dancing and singing penguins. Amazingly enough it was able to bring in a total of over $185 million dollars at the box office. It’s expected that much more will be made once it comes out on video because who wouldn’t want to watch it again and again?

Will Ferrell is known to guarantee laughs, but he really outdid himself in the movie Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. In this movie, he plays a NASCAR driver who is competing with a French driver for the number one place. Fortunately you don’t have to be a NASCAR fan to enjoy this movie. It’s no wonder this movie was one of the top on the charts in the year 2006. Definitely a “must see”!

Hopefully 2007 will bring more great movies into our theatres and homes!
