At-a-glance

The end of the first semester at AHS is rapidly approaching and seniors are preparing for what is to come. These seniors will either stay in school for second semester or graduate at midterm. The three options that seem to come up the most for early graduates are: going into some form of the military, going to work then college, or just hanging around town for the time being.

Senior Drake Christensen said that he will be "working full time until the fall of 2011 so I can make some good money until college starts.”

Senior Ally Olson also plans on "just working to get some money and maybe do some online classes."

However, senioritis has seemed to kick in for a few seniors who have planned to graduate at semester, but are currently unsure if they will make it due to the drop in their grades. Christensen and Olson both agreed that kids are just being lazy and, as Christensen stated, “unmotivated.” Most students want to leave at semester because they are either tired of school and its drama or just want to go to work to earn money for college.

However, seniors that are staying the full year have different reasons for staying. Some may have to because their parents make them, they want to learn as much as they can before going off to college or simply because it is their last year and they want to enjoy as much of it as they can. Christensen and Olson had different takes on the experience of being in school the full year or graduating early. Olson replied with “it’s the last time you will see your high school friends because sometimes you will lose touch and so you don’t miss out on school activities.”

Christensen said, “your senior year is what you make it, if you want to go the full year, then by all means...” Whether a senior is graduating early or not, everyone will cherish the good memories and their senior year will be an experience to last a lifetime.
