CHS’ morning announcements crew has brought its enthusiasm and randomness to the morning announcements. Every morning during homeroom, this “motley crew” comes up with their ideas to make the announcements interesting. What makes them so exciting is made up right before they actually announce it to the school.
“We’re pretty much the best six people on the face of the planet,” joked senior crew member Jordan Carter-Reich.
Ever wonder why and how the crew comes up with its random SAT word of the day sentences and bizarre “Have a…. Comet Day?” Right before these are announced, the crew is thinking of what to say, and then decides to say the first idea that comes to mind. The idea is to try and catch some attention during homeroom in the morning.
“We’re the voice that everyone hears but no one listens to,” stated junior crew member Daiyaan Colbert.
Every morning in the front office, the six members of the announcements crew are quickly glancing over their announcements for that day. As they take turns reading through the birthdays, the recaps for teams and club reminders, and any other important information, the best and sometimes the strangest part of the announcements comes into play. Many people wonder why the “Have a… Comet Day” can be very random and most of the time strange. The crew enjoys saying what is on their mind and getting reactions out of everyone listening.
“I think the announcements are sometimes really long and some of the jokes are kind of cheesy,” explained sophomore Hannah Straughn.
Like Straughn, other students and faculty members question the meaning of the comments, but also know that it is all fun for the crew.
