The varsity girls’ basketball team left Oconomowoc Tuesday with a 44-40 win over the Coonies.

“Oconomowoc has a great team, and this was a big victory for the girls,” said Coach Ron Reichle.

A slow start left the Hawks down 17-13 at halftime. Going into the 4th quarter, the Lady Hawks trailed by 9 points. Strong defense by AHS trimmed the lead and by the final buzzer, the Hawks had captured the lead and the game.

“I think the girls were nervous coming into the game and they came out slow,” said Reichle. “Once they settled down things began falling into place. We played good defense, and it was a great comeback.”

Katy Hackbart led with 9 points and also grabbed 6 rebounds. Kaylee Cardinal added 8 points in the win. Jamie LeRoy was 2 points shy of the double-double, finishing with 8 points and 10 rebounds. Ashley Peck dished out 4 assists for the Hawks.

The Lady Hawks are back in action tonight when they travel to Waukesha North to face off against the Northstars.
