At-a-glance

The varsity girls’ basketball season opened up its season with an impressive 57-34 over Deforest.

“It was a great way to open up the season,” said coach Ron Reichle. “Deforest was a final-four team at the State tournament last season, and they’ll be a good team this year too.”

The Hawks got things going quick in the season-opener. AHS took a 29-10 halftime lead to the locker-room and never looked back.

Four AHS players helped lead the Lady Hawk’s balanced attack, as each scored in double figures. Kristy Cardinal led with 13 points. Katie Hackbart and Ashley Peck each dropped in 10 of their own. Stephanie Werry finished with 10 points. Jamie LeRoy grabbed 9 rebounds in the game.

“I thought we played with great energy,” said Reichle. “We’ve got a lot of talent, and it was great to see the girls come out strong like they did.”
