Arrowhead High School’s varsity girls’ tennis team traveled to New York City on Labor Day weekend, Friday, September 2^nd to Monday, September 5^th. The team chose to travel to the 2011 US Open at their own personal cost. This is the second year that they have spent a weekend at this event.  

Senior Molly Ziegler, a returning varsity player, was excited to share her experience: “Not only did I enjoy watching the tennis, I learned a lot from the player’s strokes, footwork, and mental toughness. My favorite part of the trip would have to be when I saw my favorite player, Rafael Nadal win at the Arthur Ashe stadium.”

This trip was optional for all varsity players; six were returning varsity players, while a few newcomers were invited as well. Each player chose to attend with a parent. The team, along with their parents, stayed at the Hampton Inn in the heart of Times Square.

Molly Ziegler also said that she and her team learned a lot about the game of tennis while observing matches through this weekend. They learned to work together and it was a memorable time shared while bonding with one another to ultimately come back as an emotionally closer team.

Molly Ziegler’s final words about the US Open: “Being able to see the best tennis players in the world play at this competition is something that I will never forget.”
