At-a-glance

On Wednesday October 13th Junior Arrowhead students took the PSAT test during school. The test prepared students for the SAT.

The PSAT is a preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. It is sponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NSMC), according to the College Board website.

The PSAT tests on three different categories: critical reading skills, writing skills, and math problem solving skills.

The test was three hours long with one five minute break and one stretching break.  It was split up into five different sections with different time limits.

The first four sections, students had 25 minutes to answer the questions, and the last section students had 30 minutes.

“[It was the] worst thing of my life,” said junior Brian Thomas.

If a high school doesn’t require a student to take the PSAT, there are a few reasons students should consider taking it: it enters them into the scholarship NSMC sponsors, it prepares them for the SAT, it provides feedback and information from different colleges, and it compares them to others in the nation (so they know their weaknesses and strengths).
