At-a-glance

Although June 29th of Derek Landisch’s junior year came as a disappointment to many Division 1 colleges, it wasn’t for the University of Wisconsin-Madison (UWM). Tuesday afternoon, Landisch signed a letter of intent to play football at the UWM. As a Badger, he is expected to play either linebacker or running back.

However, many wonder why Landisch made his decision so early.  He did not take any of his five available official visits prior to signing.

Beginning in September of a high school athlete’s senior year, they are allowed to take official visits. An official visit is a forty eight hour period where a division one or two college can bring a player to their campus and pay for all expenses.

Landisch would have undoubtedly been a candidate for more than the five allotted visits.

“I knew I wanted to be a Badger even before I signed. I’ve grown up watching them play every Saturday, and to have the opportunity to do so is a dream come true,” Landisch said.

Not to mention the fact that he will be getting a free education at a premier Big Ten school.

“I plan to take my football career as far as possible; however, a degree from Madison is a good fallback.”

U.S. News & World Report agrees with Landisch, ranking UWM as the 45th best university in the nation.

Landisch has a bright future ahead of him at Madison, but as of now he plans to “enjoy his senior year before he starts thinking about being a Badger,” he says.
