Students log around 5,040 hours in classes during their high school careers. That’s 180 days a year, seven hours a day, a whole lot of time committed to school work.  Those 5,040 hours include only time at school, not the hours put in at home and on the weekend for schoolwork.  I don’t think I’m the only who’d says that’s a lot of time to be dedicated to school and I think many people would agree to having seniors being exempt from second semester finals.

With my idea, seniors passing their classes should not have to take second semester finals. Plain and simple.  It’s beneficial to seniors and a good incentive to underclassmen to work hard and still try senior year so senioritis becomes a non-issue.  I know sophomores can be exempt second semester from finals if they get high scores on the WKCE, but not all schools offer that and rescinding that could be an option if needed.

Other schools such as Central Wisconsin Christian, a private school in Waupun, have this policy and I think we should too.

Also, most seniors are in AP classes and AP tests mean long and rigorous study hours to qualify for college credit.  Seniors should be able to take these tests and then not have to worry about finals right before graduation.
