At-a-glance

We all know that Arrowhead does a lot for the community, but this last week’s events may have topped previous events.

On Friday, December 5th the Arrowhead girls’ varsity basketball team played against Catholic Memorial. The following week on December 16th, it was the boys’ varsity team’s turn against Kettle Moraine. Both Arrowhead teams were victorious, but there was something else different about these particular games. Marketing Night.

All money raised between both game nights will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. “We met out goal for both games,” said Marketing Night director and Arrowhead teacher Steve Melzer. It’s safe to say there was a tremendous amount of work in reaching the $5,000 goal. All marketing students helped plan and run the games whether they were playing the music, handing out T-shirts, or selling candy dressed as nerds. “Deca Officers did a good job running everything,” said Melzer.

Between the Klement’s Sausage race and other mascot activities, there was more entertainment then just the basketball games. The famous sausages weren’t the only celebrities at the games; also present was  Mr. Pig, and Arrowhead’s own, Wally the Warhawk. When the mascots weren’t enjoying the games, they were mingling in the stands with fans or dancing at center court.

Not only did the Muscular Dystrophy Association benefit from the nights’ activities, but also many local businesses. The nights’ gold sponsor was ProHealth Care with a $1,000 donation. Other sponsors were Fox Bros Piggly Wiggly, Applebees, Biebel’s True Value, and Sports Clips. Jack Safro Scion even participated by holding a contest for Arrowhead marketing students to design a customized paint-job for a Scion. The winning car was displayed in front of the school before both games.

Despite threatening snowstorms and unfortunate rescheduling, both nights reached their goal and succeeded in providing entertainment.
