At-a-glance

Avril Lavigne released her third full-length studio album ‘The Best D*mn Thing’ on Tuesday, April 18. This has been her first album since ‘Under My Skin,’ which was released in 2004. ‘The Best D*mn Thing’ was produced by her husband Deryck Whidbey (from Sum 41) and features none other than Blink-182’s Travis Barker on drums.

“Girlfriend,” the first track on the album, will probably go down as one of the catchiest, if not most annoying, songs of the year. Also featured on the album is “Keep Holding On,” a track which Lavigne co-wrote at the request of 20th Century Fox for the soundtrack to the studio's film Eragon. “I Can Do Better” and “The Best D*mn Thing” are more pop/punk and are filled with sing-along choruses and up beat tempos. On the flip side, “When You're Gone” and “Innocence” are much more serious and emotional and really express Lavigne’s growth as a songwriter.

Personally, I am not the biggest Avril Lavigne fan but I will admit that this album did impress me. It’s a very well written album and she is finally being herself and not what everyone wants her to be. Avril said that this is her best album yet and I’d have to agree with her.
