At-a-glance

What are D-list celebrities doing these days just to get a little attention? We’ve heard people say, “Any publicity is good publicity,” but seriously, to what point is it considered too much?

Hugh Grant bounced back from his *ehem* shady dealings, Gary Coleman bounced back from attacking a fan (okay, bad example), but will the loveable character known as Cosmo Kramer bounce back from his racial comments? That’s the question on everyone’s mind.

Kramer’s real name is Michael Richards. Richards was booked at the Laugh Factory comedy club one night when a few of the audience members started heckling him. Instead of sucking it up or making a few tastefully funny comments back, like many other comedians would, he started screaming racial comments. If you must know what he said, he said the N-word, repeatedly! He also mentioned that 50 years ago they would have been subjected to physical abuse.

For some strange reason unknown to me and many other people, he thought this was funny. Of course, the owners of the comedy club did not (or they knew it would be bad for business, who knows) so they took him off the stage and refused to let him back into their club.

People who know Richards, such as Jerry Seinfeld, were completely taken aback by his comments. They said that these hurtful words didn’t seem like something that would ever come out of his mouth. Fans who looked up to him also refused to believe that he would say anything like this, but it’s a little hard considering it was taped.

With all these people pointing out that it was out of character for Richards to speak this way, you have to wonder, was it a publicity stunt? I certainly hope so because if he thought that was funny, I think he chose the wrong career.
