The Arrowhead wrestlers kept themselves busy on Saturday, December 16, at the Jim Flynn Christmas Classic.



The Warhawks’ wrestlers were in 9 of the 14 championship matches, winning 6 titles at the meet. Arrowhead won the tournament with the highest point total of the day, 270.5. Neenah came in second with 217.5 points, Beaver Dam took third with 128.5 points, and the rest of the finishers in place order were Waupun, New Holstein, Valders, Schiocton, Weston, Lake Mills, and Dodgeland.

In the 112-pound weight class, Andrew Zwirlein needed 5:19 to pin Brandon Scheisel from Valders.

At 119 pounds, James Clark defeated Ross Dary of Waupan, 10-5.

125-pounder Arik Yde pinned New Holstein’s Eric Schmitz in only 1:21.

Returning State champion Nick Hucke pinned Ben Strobel from Neenah for a victory in the 130-pound weight class.

Neenah’s Adam Manteufel defeated 135-pound Senior Chris Spaude, 11-6.

In the 160- pound class, Jeremiah Dorn of Neenah defeated Clinton Orsini in a close match, 2-1.

Eric Herbert pinned Beaver Dam’s Ben Schmid in just under three minutes to deliver an Arrowhead victory at 189 pounds.

215-pound senior Josh Antonneau pinned Valders’ Sam Marshall in 3:38.

Super heavyweight Dan Meyer was pinned by Shiocton’s Vic Scheller in 2:33.



AHS pins down South 63-6

The Arrowhead varsity wrestling squad got another Classic 8 Conference dual meet victory at Waukesha South on December 7th.

The Warhawks got eight pins on Blackshirt wrestlers, and the final score was 63-6 route.

In the 103-pound weight class, Matt Hoffman pinned Nancy Schultz.

Returning State runner-up Andrew Zwirlein got a pin on Jacob Bullis at 112 pounds.

For six points, James Clark pinned Alex Rodriguez at 119 pounds.

Ken Johns was pinned by the Warhawks’ Arik Yde in 47 seconds at 125 pounds.

Returning State champion Nick Hucke pinned Ben Nimtz in just under two minutes at 130 pounds.

Chris Spaude got a decision against Zach Barndt, winning his match 12-1 at 135 pounds.

At 140 pounds, Al Yde won over Morgan James, 6-1.

The Blackshirts’ first victory came at 145 pounds, as Ryan Johnson beat out Torsten Niemmenen, 8-5.

Sophomore Billy Weiss pinned Ben Schultz at 152 pounds in 2:15.

Clinton Orsini won 14-3 over Jakob Rustler at 160 pounds.

Derek Thommeson was defeated by Jacob Jones, 8-6, at 171 pounds.

189-pounder Eric Herbert handedly beat Joey Bardat, 12-2.

Josh Antonneau dominated Andrew Singer, beating him via fall in 2:15.

The super heavyweight 275-pound match went to Arrowhead’s Dan Meier, who needed 3:21 to pin Joe Fletcher.

AHS takes 2nd at Oconomowoc



The Warhawks’ wrestlers hit the mats on Saturday, December 2nd, for a big tournament at Oconomowoc High School.

Arrowhead’s varsity wrestling team took second, finishing far behind Wisconsin Rapids, the state’s top-ranked team. The Hawks lost by a tally of 55-10. The Warhawks got points from Josh Antonneau, who won by decision against Vance Grube in the 215 weight class. Andrew Zwirlein got a major decision over Jeremy Clark at the 112 weight class. Arrowhead’s last victory came from returning State champion Nick Hucke at 130 pounds. He defeated Jared Jaminski, who was also a State champion last year.

Arrowhead beat Wilmot, 63-10; Oconomowoc, 54-30; Janesville Craig, 54-18; and Waukesha West 49-23. After all was said and done, three Warhawk wrestlers remained undefeated: Hucke, Antonneau, and Zwirlein.

Against Waukesha West, Arrowhead junior Eric Herbert pinned Arron Ristav in 5:29. Arik Yde pinned Jim Phistry (125 pounds) and Hucke pinned Matt Nelson (130 pounds). Sophomore Billy Weiss pinned Brian Moran (152 pounds) and Clinton Orsini pinned Pedar Steinquist (160 pounds).

Arrowhead’s next meet is a Classic 8 Conference match-up at 7 p.m. on Thursday, December 7th. The Hawks head to Waukesha South to face off against the Blackshirts.
