You sit down, determined to do your homework. The computer is ready to help you along your journey. You open your browser, and immediately go to "Facebook." Your concentration is killed like a womprat on Tatooine. Most teenagers experience this problem, which we shall call the "Facebook Effect," where all of your work is sucked into an abysmal hole of social media.

Google, our favorite search engine, has figured out that if they glue this technology to your face, they will get more money from you. They seem to have found that people like to waste time. And they would be correct.

The product in question, Project Glass, is a realization of the HUD, or heads-up display, which is so popular in video games. It offers you real-time information about your social networks, your current destination, SMS messaging, and supposedly a video chat function.

Imagine what future versions of Project Glass could do. They could display your current procrastination levels, number of people who you are currently losing contact with, and a news feed on how your other friends are wasting time on other social networking sites.

Eventually, you may even be able to input commands to your house, and have a Tony Stark-like house integrated system. You could have the fridge shoot soda cans at you or potentially your newfound obesity-induced diabetes will need an automatic checking. The possibilities are endless.

Although it may have an innumerable amount of functions for you, it also has many profitable (and slightly devious) applications for Google. Google, as you may or may not know, makes most of its money through advertising. They use information that you willingly already give them to put ads on the pages you visit. Information including what things you google, what things you subscribe to, etc. With this new piece of technology, they are able to track everything you do, right down to everything you look at.

The tech seems cool enough, but the knowledge that everywhere you go, everything you do, and every single thing that you see is being monitored would probably put a damper on the cool stuff you could do. Big Brother is watching.
