There are plenty of things that need to be changed in college football. The number one thing is the BCS bowl system. So the NCAA got together this off-season and made a huge step in its progression of getting a playoff system. Or so it thinks. It added another game to the regular season.

That’s right, the NCAA hasn’t done anything about its BCS disaster, but it still managed to add another game to the regular season. Some people may ask, what good does this extra game do?

Not only did the NCAA add another game to the regular season, it replaced the bye week with this game. Obviously the people making these decisions either don’t know what they are doing, or they have never played a down of football in their lives.

An average 18-year-old football player couldn’t play a full season without having any rest. A high school football team that doesn’t even make the playoffs ends up playing 11 weeks of football, with one bye week. In college football, a team could play up to 14 games without a bye week (12 regular season games, a conference championship game, and a bowl game). That would be absurd to take away their one week of rest.

Putting that much added stress on a football player is selfish. They give it their all every week for about 17 weeks, so why shouldn’t they be able to have one week off? If it is because the football games bring in tons of revenue each game, they should try to find some other way to get that money, because athletes need some time during their season for rest, just like they’ve done it for years.
