Four. Four years since the Fighting Zebras have made a playoff appearance. With the start of a rough season, Lincoln has come back to prove that they can play the same game of football as any other team out there.
Credit. Credit is due to those who make the plays but also to those who keep the plays going. Kurtis Kohler stepped back up to quarterback, which he played his sophomore and junior years, after McPherson was injured. David Hoover and Cisco Greco, both sophomores, were pulled up after Armstrong and Perkins sustained injuries. Both players have done exceptionally well since being pulled up to the Varsity level.
Throughout all of this the Zebras have pull through and played teams that critics have given all the glory to and Lincoln has defeated them. They outplayed Oakmont, to later upset Mesa Verde. They showed up Mesa. They knew they could win and Mesa Verde underestimated them.
Mira Loma, not exactly the leagues finest team, but a team nonetheless. This was the night for the Zebras to shine. Lincoln’s offensive line stepped up and records were made and once again they proved their point; that they deserve to be in the playoffs.
The Zebra’s offensive line made their blocks, gave the quarterback more time, and got the running backs through. “Most people don’t realize how hard their job is, it’s harder then mine. All I have to do is run the ball, they make the blocks to get me there,” said Michael Anderson.
Who got the Zebra’s to the playoffs? It’s not really who as much as it is what got them there. Perservence. Each player stepped up to bar and did what they had to do, to get the team as a whole to the playoffs. Anderson ran for 162 yards, in the last game alone, which put him over the 1,000 yards for the season.
Credit. It should be given to the offensive line, which not only got Anderson through but also protected the quarterback. It should be given to the defensive line, which held the other teams to a limited amount of plays.
The players have craved the playoffs since their freshman year and now that craving has been satisfied. They competed among the best, with nothing to lose and made it.
