Think your getting ripped off? Think lunch costs too much and isn’t worth it……WRONG!

You are deceiving yourself. We are getting the best deal in this county and if you think different then you don’t know what your talking about. The lunch people are probably the most dedicated, yet neglected part of the school.

When people think lunch lady, they usually think something along the lines of a bigger crusty lady with a hairnet, or Chris Farley dressed in “lunch lady land” serving week old food that even they don’t know what is in it. This is the total opposite, at Lincoln high school we get the most food for the cheapest price possible. “I want to make it affordable” that’s what Jeff Dardis the District Food Director told me in an interview, in which he pointed out that in the school his child goes to lunch is 2.50 and they don’t get as much as us.

Some people get mad that some of the prices were raised a full 25 cents (bagels and flavored water). Now I admit even I was upset over it but then it was explained to me. Last year those items were so cheap that the lunch people were not making money, they were losing $$. So when we get upset over the small price take into account the lunch people cant control them. The lunch, snack department is totally independent, the money you pay for lunch and snacks go for the food services, paying checks and getting more food for you.

You may have heard how they are trying to eliminate soft drinks and junk food from the schools because of the problem with obesity. Well the people this will affect the most is the lunch people by loosing revenue. So don’t get mad at the lunch lady serving you food that isn’t good, this isn’t their fault, they are the last people that want this change. In fact they are trying to find replacements that the students will enjoy, when they eliminate soft drinks the drinks will probably be replaced by smoothies.

Now more about our beloved food service employees, you may not realize how hard they work preparing our food. Propostrous, sure some people can cook but how many people can cook for 200 teenagers with holes in their stomachs. I mean these people are here for us whenever we need them at school, whenever someone is hungry and looking for food there is always someone there to help.

So in conclusion I don’t think we appreciate our hard working lunch serving working. So next time you see the nice person helping you get ahold of food, shake that persons hand and give them and say “I appreciate you giving me my food”
