The girls swimming and diving team had a meet Jan. 9 against Green and came out victorious with a score of 103-80. With a record of 6-1, the team had a showdown against GlenOak Jan. 16. Soon the girls will host meets against McKinley and Jackson, followed by trips to Copley and Perry. Seniors Alexa Gordish, Mandi Grandjean and Jacquelyn Misanik (right) were all recognized as “Swimmer of the Week,” voted on by the Greater Canton Aquatic Association.

The Lady Vikings have had a rough couple of weeks with a three game losing streak. The Lady Vikings played some of the best teams in the country and the state. The girls lost to Lima Bath, who was a state semi-finalist last year and Hathaway Brown, who was state runner up last year as well, at the Pizza Oven Holiday Shoot-Out. The girls also traveled down to Lexington Kentucky to play the third ranked team in the country and lost 80-66. The girls traveled to Perry and pulled out a hard, deserving victory, winning in overtime 45-44. - Bill Gould

The hockey team played Avon Lake Jan. 8 and won 4-2. Two days later they came back and beat Chagrin Falls 5-3. They also traveled to Cleveland Jan. 11 and beat Holy Name 5-2 at Quicken Loans Arena. This past weekend was a tournament at Kent State, where they played four games, winning two, tying one and losing one, making their overall record 13-6-2. The boys brought in ’09 with a splash, putting their record at 6-2. They had a tight meet against Wooster but lost with a score of 95 to 91. Next, the team defeated the Green Bulldogs on their own grounds with an intimidating score of 122 to 60. Last weekend, the boys took on GlenOak and came out with a win of 115-71. A team of Tony Ventosa, Zac Hawkins, Thomas Tedrow and Tom Vretas won the 200-yard medley relay and Mitch Alters won the 200 freestyle.
