There are various opinions as to how the world is going to end. Are the ancient Mayans correct? Will the world truly end in 2012, or will it not?

Recently, scientists have discovered an asteroid by the name of Apophis that may be heading to Earth. When will the direct hit possibly occur? April 13, 2036! What, so is the Mayan prediction of the end of the world completely disregarded now? Seeing as this future event will happen 24 years after one predicted theory of the end of the world, I’d think it must be.

The chances of this asteroid even striking the earth is one in a thousand to one in several thousand. Honestly, with the chances slim as they are, why must it be publicly announced that an asteroid will even hit the Earth years from now into the future?

Scientists have also said that if it DOES in fact hit the Earth, it will do so off the coast of California. The largest effect being 50ft waves that crash down on California. Extinction worthy? I think not. End of the world worthy? Nope.

When the date comes closer to April 13, 2036, and it seems as if this asteroid will be a major problem, then why not announce it then. Announcing anything that can have a grave effect upon the Earth years and years and years is just unnecessary. Nobody can be certain of the future if it’s so distant.

Currently, NASA is working on plans to avert the asteroid, as well as contemplating other ways to do rid of Apophis. That’s wonderful, so why bother creating a scare if they think they have the ability to deflect the asteroid from Earth in the first place?

There are always new theories, as well as old, that regard how our world is going to end. Yet, nobody truly knows when this will happen, and I believe that’s a good thing. I know I wouldn’t want to know I was going to die tomorrow, because that would do nothing but ruin today, and I’m sure many others have this stance too. People have to live life, they’re going to die anyway, so why get caught up in even more confusion? If the world is going to blow up tomorrow, so be it. If we are going to break out into a nuclear war 5 years from now, so be it. If the world is going to be sucked into a black hole 10 years from now, so be it. We shouldn’t be worried about the end of the world, if it happens, it happens. It’s as simple as that.
