The Jones Soda company created by Peter Van Stolk went festive with its sodas this holiday season by putting out several new seasonal flavors, including Salmon, Corn on the Cob, Green Bean Casserole, Pecan Pie, Turkey & Gravy, Cranberry, Wild Herb Stuffing, Pumpkin Pie and Brussels Sprout. A few daring Jay staff members and SHS teachers tried the unique flavors.

Senior Kyle Covington said the Turkey & Gravy soda is “sorta sweet, but it has an awful aftertaste.” After a dollar bet was placed, Covington was the only Jay staffer willing to try the Brussels Sprout Soda. His verdict? “Extremely disgusting! It’s like butterscotch mixed with caca.”

Sophomore Kayla Hurst took a risk and drank some Pumpkin Pie Soda, “At first it tasted really sweet, then it started to taste like medicine mixed with dirt.”

But MEAP Coordinator Gail Setter didn’t mind the pumpkin soda. “I think it tastes like pumpkin pie. The aftertaste is distinctively pumpkin.”

The Wild Herb Stuffing fared poorly with senior Kristin McKissic, who said, “It doesn’t taste like any stuffing I ever tasted. It’s so nasty.”

English teacher Kara Shuell said, “The pumpkin pie had a nice aftertaste, but the Brussels Sprout made me want to throw up.”

Once most taste testers had a fresh piece of mint gum to soothe their offended taste buds, they all agreed that Jones Soda made a big mistake with their overall awful tasting holiday pop.
