On Friday, January 6, the Eagles lost to the visiting N.E.W Lutheran Blazers 61-28. After consecutive wins against Weyauwega-Fremont and Sevastopol, the Eagles offense spluttered and were out-rebounded by the Blazers.
Not much went well for the Eagles, who were beaten in almost every statistical category. The Blazer defense held the Eagles to a minuscule 28 points, and only two points were scored by the Eagles in the 3rd quarter. N.E.W also blocked quite a few of the Eagles’ shots. Not scoring many points put an enormous amount of pressure on the defense. The Blazers used their height advantage to get many offensive rebounds. With extra opportunities for shots because of good offensive rebounding, the Blazers scored 61 points.
Credit should be given where credit is due; the Blazers are a top-notch team with many talented players. A note should be made that numerous shots by the Eagles bounced in and out of the hoop. The Eagles took their shots in the right situation, but the ball just seemed to avoid the hoop. Jordan E.’s hustle could be seen by everyone in the crowd. When Jordan E. was in and
there was a loose ball on the ground, he would always be the player hustling after the ball and diving on the ground.
Since the Eagles only scored 28 points, there was only one double-digit scorer:Jordan J., who scored ten points. Other scorers include: Jordan E. and Mitchel N. with five points apiece, Riley B., Matt R., Drew K., and Bradley S., all scored two points apiece.
The Blazers are a very talented basketball team, so the Eagles should not be discouraged by this tough loss. As a team, the Eagles are improving dramatically, offensively and defensively. Next time the Eagles play the Blazers, it will be a completely different game with the Eagles putting up more of a fight.
