The roar of motorcycles filled the air as the Hugoton Eagles circled the track and made there way to the field to face the Lakin Broncs on September 11. On the Eagles first possession, they took the ball down and scored a quick a touchdown. When Lakin got the ball back, they soon threw an interception that happened to be Coltin Ghumm’s first of three. The Eagles dominated the field and scoreboard not letting up all night.
Caleb Gifford had a big night rushing, coming up with 22 rushes totaling 110 yards. Keithan Martin ran wild for 11 rushes and 121 yards while Bubba Beltz fought hard for all 63 yards on 10 rushes. The stingy Eagle defense was anchored by Caleb Gifford. Gifford accumulated 11 tackles throughout the night but Bubba Beltz led in tackles with 12. Ghumm had a big night catching passes from the other quarterback racking up 3 interceptions. Coach Clint Merritt said “I thought we played really well aside from a few minutes in the second quarter, I was proud of our effort and we made improvements from week one.” The final score of the game was 47-7 another Eagle win.
