Piercings and Gauges ~ The Cons and The Pros...
The lead vocalist of Suffokate, one of blogger Manny Zimmerschied's heroes, sports a huge gauge. Zimmerschied argues that while piercings and gauges do have some downsides, BHS should allow them. - Courtesy Google Images

Gauges or piercings are a constant source of conflict at BHS and I do know that there are negatives, but I’d say the biggest downside to having piercings is not being able to wear them in school. Schools should allow them because having them does no harm to anyone. I do not think they really cause a distraction as some teachers like to say.

Another downside to piercings is not being able to wear them for your future profession.  Of course, it just depends what you do in your future and where you work. I would love to have them my whole life, but I’m realistic that I’m probably going to have to give them up when I begin my future.

Another downside to piercings is being looked down upon by adults who just assume that because I have piercings I’m a bad kid, who’s disrespectful and constantly breaks the law; it’s ridiculous.  People should not be judging those of us with piercings just by that way we look. I would encourage everyone to get to know someone for who they are before you make assumptions. We may just be the best kids you get to know.

Despite what adults say, there are positives to piercings.  Piercings make people stand out and look better. I don’t want to look like everyone else ~ all boring and the same. I think piercings highlight a person’s attributes.

I know, people may think that those of us who have piercings or gauges are weirdos but again that’s their opinion. Right now, it’s my decision and my life. Piercings are just my way of expressing myself; it’s kind of like a hobby. I love getting piercings and I plan on getting more. So, for today, I’ll continue with my passion because that’s what teenagers are supposed to do.
