Depending on one’s personality, reading can be an enjoyable activity or something to be despised.

Reading has always been something I enjoyed doing. As a newborn, my mom read to me, but as I have grown, reading has been something I can do all on my own.

It is not an activity that I do only because the school insists of it, but it is an activity that I take a part in because I enjoy getting lost in text.

Fiction is the most enjoyable for me because it takes me away from this world. I read newspaper and magazines and sometimes even non-fiction although it is not a subject I love reading.

Reading other people’s works is my favorite; I enjoy seeing their views and personal writing style. I love to write and then read my own work as well.

Reading will always be something I enjoy, no matter what the subject.

A bald man once said, “Grammar is like porn to me.” I do not feel anywhere near that level for grammar, but I can kind of relate to this bald man’s affection. Except my affection comes from the love of writing. To some, writing is a task that must be performed to excel in school. Writing to me, though, is so much more than something I have to do; it is something I want to do. Writing is my personal therapy session. Whenever, I have an emotion that is so overwhelming that I cannot control it, I grab a pen and paper and let my thoughts damage a white slate. No one will ever see what I write because it is personal to me. It allows me to express my true self without being judged. I enjoy writing about the things that occur during the day. I like inventing quotes and stories to take me away from reality, if only for a while. In a nut shell, a pen and paper are my cheap therapists. They can take me out of my life, and they keep me sane in it. Writing is not my porn; writing is my world.

It all began after snack time in kindergarten. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been writing.

I can’t even begin to describe my excitement as I pulled out my butterfly notebook for writing time everyday in Mrs. Dolphin’s kindergarten class. Whether it was my first sentences written down in my Winnie-the-Pooh coloring book as I enjoyed endless episodes of Blues Clues and a plethora of Flavor-Ice popsicles or my first actual award for winning state-wide poetry and essay contests, I’ve found that writing truly has become not only a passion but a necessity in my life.

I write about everything. Sports, friends, short stories, future plans, and everything in between fill old scraps of loose notebook paper that clutter and cram the little empty space in my bedroom that I have left.

Stylistically, I love writing about humorous topics. My favorite topics are ones dealing with a funny situation or embarrassing moment.

I love expressing myself through writing. Writings should have personality that let the reader know there’s a real person behind the story written on the paper in front of them.

Writing, to me, is an area of self expression. I’d love to change the world with my ideas and opinions as to how we can make the world a better place. We are the heroes to our own story. Our job is to write our future.

Anyone with the right amount of self determination and courage can be a hero, even if they started out with a butterfly notebook.
